In or Out? Yes or No?
October 10, 2010

Dear Friends,
As soon as we finish the holidays, we are already reading about the flood that destroyed the world! In Chassidus, the flood represents all of life’s troubles that rush back to us at the start of the new year. How do we guard against becoming overwhelmed? The answer, of course, is to build an ark! In this week’s talk, we discuss two fundamental structures in the Torah we can build: the ark and it’s counterpart the mishkan or holy tabernacle. One structure invites people in (“My house is a house for all people”) whereas, the other keeps things out (the waters of the flood0). Which are we to be? We discuss this, and the power of the individual and how even small interactions can have a cosmic impact.
