Channeling the White Fire of the original light of creation into the world. This is what the Maccabees did? Learn how and why the miracle happened and what it means to us today!
When Hashem gave us the Torah at Mount Sinai the Kabbalists say that He pronounced the letter Aleph. Now all that is well and good — except the letter Aleph is silent! We explore the meaning of this paradox.
Lots in this week’s talk, from how to avoid becoming an imitation of yourself, to a discussion of Star Wars, to mezuzahs, to the beauty of Joseph, to death bed confessions, to how to pursue true success in life to one’s last breath. In other words, another typical talk!
Latkes are holy? Come on! You can’t be serious! What about Jelly Donuts on Hanukah? Also, holy! Really?? Yes!! In this short talk (18 minutes) you will hear the connection between the manna that fell from heaven and the tradition of eating fried food on Chanukah.
There are a lot of healing teachings in this talk, and some cool crazy stories, too. Everything from teachings about Chanukah to the selling of Joseph, to the philosophy of gematria, to the whole episode of Yehudah and Tamar. Lots of teachings about Mashiach and Hashem’s closeness even in the darkest of times.
The light of the menorah is the light of heaven. The gematria of shemen (oil) is the same as shamayin (heaven). When we light the menorah we illuminate not just the darkness around us, but open ourselves to see past the confines of this world and the miracles that are with us constantly.
PS – Check out the “Holiness of Latkes” talk too – only 18 minutes
Hanukah is about way more than the miracle of oil. On a much deeper level, it’s about the fact that Hashem has never stopped communicating with us. In this week”s talk, we look at the episode between Yehudah and Tamar, the word for Truth as it appears encoded in the Torah, and how to await the fixing of the world without getting burnt out.
In this week’s talk, we explore a wide array of ideas associated with Hanukah, from it being historically the last holiday to be added to the Jewish calendar, to the fact that it must be celebrated in a person’s home, to it’s yearly connection to the story of Joseph, the amazing story of a little known Jewish hero, and beyond.

Holy Brother: Inspiring Stories and Enchanted Tales about Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach
This may be my favorite Jewish book of all time. It’s a collection of first person accounts of people’s encounters with Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. You’ll literally laugh, cry, be inspired beyond belief and want to be a better person.
The Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet
From the very first Kabbalistic work, through the Talmud, through an impressive array of rabbinic literature, great minds have found the Aleph-Beis to be a gold mine of wisdom and guidance. This fascinating best-seller weaves these golden threads into a glorious tapestry, presenting hundreds of ideas and comments on the Aleph-Beis, including: the Aleph-Beis as the force of Creation, as a primer for Jewish living, and as a fountainhead of Torah insight and mystical meaning. The product of decades of learning, thinking, and teaching by the revered educator, lecturer, and community activist Rabbi Michael L. Munk. A treat not to be missed.
